Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson have coronavirus, but say they're 'doing fine'

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have tested positive for coronavirus in Australia.

The Hollywood actor made the announcement on Instagram this morning (March 12), writing from a hospital in Gold Coast, Queensland.

“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” Hanks wrote.

“What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”

Hanks and his wife were in Australia ahead of working on Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic. Hanks will play Presley’s famous longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Following the post, Hanks' son Chet updated fans on his parents’ health, saying: “I just got off the phone with them.

“They both are fine, they’re not even that sick. They’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping but they are going through the necessary health precautions, obviously.”

He added: “I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about, I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well wishes but I think it’s all gonna be all right. I appreciate it and everybody stay safe out there. Much love.”
