Carrie Underwood has revealed some exciting news to fans that she will be releasing a 2020 Christmas album later this year.

The country singer told fans about the project during a virtual fan club party.

Carrie, 37, hosted the virtual party in place of the party she would normally hold this week during the annual CMA Fest.

Sitting on her sofa at home, Carrie revealed she has been working on tracks for the project since she concluded her Cry Pretty Tour 360 in 2019.

This will be Carrie's first full-length Christmas album, with the country star planning to release it ahead of the Christmas period later this year.

The album title and recorded songs have yet to be revealed publicly.

Fans of Carrie will know she previously recorded 'Do You Hear What I Hear?', 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing', 'The First Noel', 'What Child Is This' and 'O Holy Night' for a special holiday edition of her Carnival Ride album, which she released as a Walmart exclusive in 2007.

Carrie's latest single is 'Drinking Alone', which is the fourth single from her Cry Pretty album.

The singer may have some competition in the country Christmas album market after Smooth Country published that Dolly Parton is currently working on releasing her own Christmas album in 2020.

Dolly's much-anticipated Christmas album, delayed since 2017, will be released later this year.

Fans were delighted to hear the news when Dolly's creative director Steve Summers revealed the Christmas plans during an interview with Linda Perry.

Steve has worked with Dolly for 30 years and been behind some of her most iconic looks.

In the interview, Steve noted his team are currently working on preparations for album cover shoots for the 2020 Christmas project.
