Robbie Williams and Ayda Field quit The X Factor after just one series

Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field have confirmed they have quit The X Factor and will not be on the judging panel for next year's show.

Announcing the news on his personal Instagram, the former Take That singer confirmed that he had other big announcements coming soon, but that he is now too busy to commit to The X Factor going forwards.

And judging by the singer's schedule he wasn't kidding, Robbie has a huge amount of shows confirmed for this summer.

The solo star has just finished a sold-out residency in Las Vegas and has more dates planned for June and July, is taking part in Soccer Aid on June 16, joining Hugh Jackman's stage tour in May and playing Barclay's British Summer Time in Hyde Park on July 14.

In his Instagram post, accompanied with a picture of Robbie and his wife of 12 years Ayda Field, the 'Angels' singer said: "We're gutted to tell you we won't be able to return to The X Factor this year.

"We will, however, be working on projects with Simon Cowell going forward, and as huge fans of the show we will still be tuning in to The X Factor, voting and winding Simon up..."

The couple - who have only been on The X Factor for one show - were recently seen on Celebrity Apprentice and Robbie is also working on a musical with his writing partner Guy Chambers and comedian David Walliams for a stage version of The Boy in the Dress.

Robbie is confirmed to be headlining the British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park on July 14 with support acts The Black Eyes Peas, Keane, Feeder and Texas confirmed to join him.

Other acts confirmed for the festival include Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion and Stevie Wonder.
